A Commemoration of Dorothy and Alan Buchan

A Celebration of the First Twenty-three Buchan Memorial Lectures at the University of Leicester, 2001-23

Edited by Alistair Buchan and Graham Shipley

9781068700200

This volume celebrates the annual public lectures held at the University of Leicester since 2001. The series is funded principally by generous donations from the family and friends of Dorothy Buchan, who, after retiring as Head of Leicester High School for Girls, studied Ancient History and Archaeology at the University. It now also commemorates her husband, Alan, formerly Professor of Community Medicine at the University.
Each of the 23 distinguished speakers so far has contributed further reflections on their topic, and the volume is embellished with illustrated posters designed for many of the events, as well as other striking images.
The book opens with Alastair Buchan’s memoir of his parents, followed by other memories of Dorothy and Alan.
