DescriptionFrom its origins, the Urban History journal has been at the forefront of historical scholarship on the urban experience. It began with the work of H.J. Dyos and the founding of the British Urban History Group with its own Newsletter (1963) and Yearbook (1974). Now approaching its fiftieth anniversary, the Urban History journal publishes cutting-edge historical research on towns and cities across time periods and across the globe.
The goal of this anniversary conference is to take stock of urban history as a discipline, its current theoretical underpinnings, methodologies and practices, and to consider its future goals and impact on the production of historical knowledge. Our hope is to spark a spirited debate on the concepts and approaches that inform urban histories and to reflect on new horizons for historical research on the urban condition.
Bursaries for postgraduate students presenting or attending the conference We are offering 20 bursaries for postgraduate students attending or presenting at the conference, funded by Urban History, of up to £150. Please write to Prof Roey Sweet ([email protected]) with details of the paper you are presenting (if applicable); receipt from registration; and a breakdown of transport and other costs that you expect to incur. If you are not presenting a paper, please ask your supervisor to email Roey Sweet confirming your PGR status and the area of your research.
